Volumetric Weight Calculator

Couriers charge you for whichever is higher — the actual weight or the volumetric (dimensional) weight of your parcel. Use this free Vfastrr calculator to instantly find the chargeable weight and compare live courier rates between any two pin codes before you ship.

How Volumetric Weight Is Calculated

Volumetric (or dimensional) weight reflects how much space a parcel takes up rather than how heavy it is. For lightweight but bulky shipments, couriers bill on volumetric weight, so it pays to know it in advance.

Volumetric Weight (kg) = (Length × Breadth × Height in cm) ÷ 5000

The chargeable weight is simply the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. Packing smarter and reducing empty space directly lowers your shipping cost.

FAQ

Volumetric Weight FAQs

What is volumetric weight?

Volumetric weight, also called dimensional weight, estimates a package's weight based on its size (length × breadth × height). Couriers use it so bulky-but-light parcels are priced fairly for the space they occupy.

Why do couriers charge on volumetric weight?

A large, light box takes up the same vehicle space as a small, heavy one. Charging on volumetric weight ensures the price reflects the space your shipment uses, not just its physical weight.

What is the volumetric divisor used here?

This calculator uses the standard domestic divisor of 5000, i.e. (L × B × H in cm) ÷ 5000. The chargeable weight is the higher of this value and the actual weight.

How can I reduce my chargeable weight?

Use right-sized packaging, remove empty space and avoid oversized boxes. Smaller dimensions lower the volumetric weight and can significantly cut your shipping cost.
